Mangia, a 17-year-old operation, was in dire need of a renovation to not only update its look but to streamline ongoing queueing issues during busy service times. Its former location was small and seating came at a premium during the breakfast and lunch rush. A transformative project was needed.
Fortunately for the owners of Mangia, the landlord had an opportunity to relocate the restaurant’s front of house which almost doubled the square footage. This allowed for increased seating areas which ranged from soft, upholstered banquettes to electrified high-tops for customers to plug in their devices while grabbing something to eat. The ample room also afforded the opportunity to streamline the serving line which would alleviate the bunching up of customers waiting to order. Salad, sandwich, pizza, and hot food areas were clearly designated in this effort.
In lieu of the dark palate the restaurant once adorned, open ceilings were painted in pure white and walls featured red accents synonymous with Mangia’s logo. The imagery of Italian streets tied the restaurant’s menu, brand, and heritage together.
