The Siemens Demag DeLaval operation is a mixed-use industrial site situated on 36 acres right outside of Trenton, NJ. The operation dates back to the early 1900s with 7 buildings (equaling a total of 203,186 sf.) which contained a variety of environmental issues:
- Asbestos Containing Materials
- Contaminated Soils
- Hydraulic Fluids
- Underground Storage Tanks
The project consisted of abating all 7 buildings and removing hazardous materials prior to demolition. After the demolition of the buildings were completed, concrete slabs were demolished and approximately 641 cubic tons of contaminated soils were removed. Clean soil was brought into the site to backfill and grade where the buildings once stood.
The demolition and remediation of this site was a delicate operation that required communication with a number of state and federal regulatory agencies. In addition to the coordination, safety was a high priority given the adjacency to local neighborhoods and schools.
